The Ukrainian State Committee for TV, Radio Broadcasting will vigorously defend civilized and European standards of mass media outlet operations and will build their own cooperation with them based on principles of legitimacy, freedom of speech and asserting national interests, the committee said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The cases of wrongful interference of public activists and politicians in mass media operations have recently become more frequent. We are urging public activists and politicians to follow namely such principles and not to allow wrongful interference in mass media operations anymore," the document said.

Such actions by politicians "undermine the new authorities, in particular attempts to affirm European standards of mass media operations in Ukraine," the committee said.

It has been reported that on March 18 people's deputies of the Freedom party forced acting Ukrainian National Television Company Director Oleksandr Panteleimonov to resign. A video posted on the internet shows that deputies forced Panteleimonov to resign and that they hit him on the face and head.
