1 min read

Investigators have yet to establish where yesterday's shooting in Simferopol, which killed two people, was coming from, Crimean prosecutors said.

"Investigators are trying to establish the exact location and number of shooters, the inquiry is under way. According to the experts who examined the circumstances of the crime, there is a high likelihood of coincidence with the actions of the Kyiv snipers," Crimean prosecutor Natalia Poklonska said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Efforts are being made to identify the individuals who committed the crime, she said. "The crime will definitely be resolved," the prosecutor said.

"The criminal case has been opened under Article 115 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (homicide)," she said.

"I cannot say it was a sniper, and I cannot disclose details, in particular, with which weapon the shooting was carried out, for legal reasons," the prosecutor said.

It could be that the shooter did not act alone, Poklonska said.

Investigators have at their disposal the cartridge cases from the weapon used by the gunman, she said.

Poklonska could not specify how the cartridges were recovered, at the scene of crime is not established yet. "This information cannot be disseminated for legal reasons," she said.
