Right Sector says it has nothing to do with pressure on families of police

2 min read

The Right Sector movement has declared that it opposes pressure being put on the families of law enforcement officers and is against physical violence against them.

"We are building a new country, and national interests, justice and a high level of morals will form the basis of its development. That's why Right Sector is against pressure being put on the families of law enforcers," Right Sector's political council said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement notes that all those guilty should be punished, and this will also concern "the families of criminals in the form of confiscation and monetary penalties."

"However, in our opinion, threats of physical violence are unacceptable," reads the statement.

"Let our righteous anger and the desire of justice not turn into blind hatred. Let's allow the parents, wives and children of criminals in uniform to sincerely and internally condemn the actions of their sons, husbands and fathers," reads the statement.

Right Sector also said that "the families of some honest law enforcers" were now under pressure and that "this phenomenon must disappear." The movement's political council also noted that even during the confrontation on Hrushevskoho Street in January 2014 they stated that they would not avenge the families "and we adhere to this principle now."

Earlier, the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office appealed to new Ukrainian Prosecutor General Oleh Makhnitsky on February 24 that "on the territory of Volyn region, individuals who call themselves Right Sector members are exerting pressure on prosecutors and subordinate employees and are making threats of physical violence against them and their families."
