Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has promised to grant an amnesty to all the demonstrators detained during the protests in central Kyiv if they have not committed serious crimes.

"Yesterday, we agreed that after the Verkhovna Rada adopts the amnesty law, the people who were detained but ... did not commit serious crimes would be amnestied. [All] apart from those who committed serious crimes," Yanukovych said at a meeting with the heads of churches and religious organizations in Kyiv on Friday.
