Yanukovych proposes Verkhovna Rada speaker to hold emergency meeting to resolve political crisis

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has proposed Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak to hold an emergency parliament meeting to resolve the political crisis in the country immediately.

"You know that mass disturbances, which have occurred recently, were accompanied by violence, bloodshed and arson. In other words, the situation requires immediate settlement. I would ask you to urge deputies to gather and to discuss the situation," Yanukovych was quoted as saying at a meeting with Rybak in a statement posted on the president's website.

Rybak said he was ready to sign a resolution on holding an emergency parliament meeting in order to discuss ways to overcome the crisis, the Presidential press office said later on Thursday.

"I think that I will sign such a resolution today and we will invite Verkhovna Rada deputies in the beginning of the week in order to consider all the issues emerging today," Rybak said during the meeting with Yanukovych.
