Opposition in Maidan provides people with cold weapons, says Ukraine's Interior Ministry

Commandants of Kyiv's Maidan, who represent the opposition in the Ukrainian parliament, are providing weapons to self-defense units, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's public security department reported.

Aggressive people are being provided with two-meter long wooden sticks with metal ends, the department reported.

"These sticks are nothing else than dangerous weapons, which they are going to use to hurt law enforcement officers," the department said in its report.

This means that the parliamentarians are using their parliamentary immunity as a cover to cause people to commit crimes, the Interior Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian Criminal Code classified such actions as the creation of illegal militarized or armed groups (Article 260) and the organization of riots (Article 294) and defines the instigators as accomplices in those crimes," the report says.

"The police are again calling on citizens to stop the resistance, to not commit crimes, and observe public order," the report says.

According to an earlier report, some 100 law enforcement officials sought medical assistance as a result of the continuing resistance in central Kyiv, and 61 of them were hospitalized.
