Maidan's public council calling for blocking of Rada's work to prevent adoption of 2014 budget

The public council of the indefinite pro-European action on Maidan (Independence Square) in Kyiv has urged the opposition to block the work of the Ukrainian parliament in order to prevent it from adopting the state budget for 2014 and to make the authorities meet the protesters' demands.

"We need to block the parliament's work," the coordinator of Maidan's public council and coordinator of the public initiative "For Responsible Authorities," Ihor Kurus, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

He noted that the activists would assist the parliamentary opposition to block the Verkhovna Rada's building from outside.

"If the opposition in parliament insists that they need to hear reports, to consider amendments to the Constitution, which may come into force or may not, but does not block the parliament until the authorities meet the demands of the protesters, participants of the rally, then this would be wrong," Kurus said.

The representatives of the public council of Maidan said that the blocking of the Verkhovna Rada should continue until March 14.

"They need either to reformat the parliament into a form that is closer to the people, or if the parliament is unable to resolve conflicts, it should be dissolved," Kurus.
