Man who died near Maidan previously convicted citizen from Lviv region – police

Law enforcement agencies have identified the man who died near Independence Square in Kyiv, the press service of Kyiv police reported.

"This is a citizen of Lviv region, born in 1962, previously convicted," police said.

As reported, on Friday morning Kyiv police received the report that on-duty pro-EU demonstrators found a man lying on the pavement near Ukraine hotel in the capital, "choked with blood." An ambulance was immediately called, but the doctors who arrived at the scene said that the man had already died.

According to eyewitnesses, there are traces of blood on the place where the body lay, and the man may have sustained a traumatic brain injury.

The media liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Kyiv confirmed reports that the body of a man with no visible signs of a violent death had been found.

A forensic examination has shown that the man whose body was found near Independence Square in Kyiv died of pulmonary tuberculosis.
