Yanukovych not ready to sign Association Agreement with EU – opposition

The head of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has said that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is not ready to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union.

"As for the Party of Regions, there is no point in talking to them," he told journalists on Tuesday.

"They are not the ones who have to make this decision. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has to make a decision, and has not done so. And it seems to me that he is not ready to sign the agreement with the EU under any conditions."

Yatseniuk said that the opposition has declared its readiness to support all bills necessary for the country's European integration course. He also said that the opposition has in fact withdrawn its 442 amendments to the bill on the public prosecution system submitted by the head of state.

"We are in fact ready to vote for the president's bill," Yatseniuk said.

He also said that the opposition would vote for the bill on parliamentary elections drawn up by the parliamentary profile committee.

"We're ready to vote for the bill on providing [convicted former Ukrainian Prime Minister] Yulia Tymoshenko with medical treatment drawn up by the working group chaired by the Party of Regions," he said.
