Income Ministry should check if Yevhenia Tymoshenko paid taxes on real estate bought in US, says MP Kolesnichenko

MP Vadym Kolesnichenko of the Party of Regions has said that the Income and Tax Ministry should check whether Yevhenia Tymoshenko, daughter of the jailed ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, paid taxes on the purchase of expensive real estate in the United States.

"I was surprised to learn today that Yevhenia Tymoshenko owns a luxury real estate in the United States. A couple of years ago her mother - Yulia Tymoshenko – could not cross the U.S. border because federal agencies suspected her of complicity in corrupt actions of [former Ukrainian prime minister] Pavlo Lazarenko," the MP said.

"Meanwhile, Yevhenia Tymoshenko has managed to acquire expensive real estate in Miami. I have a question: has she paid taxes in Ukraine on the purchase? The tax declaration of Yulia Tymoshenko didn't include any foreign property. Which income allowed Yevhenia Tymoshenko to make such an expensive purchase?" he asked.

In light of the recent arrest of Pavlo Lazarenko's villa in the United States., Kolesnichenko said: "I won't be surprised if Yevhenia Tymoshenko's apartment will soon be arrested in connection with the lawsuit, which British lawyers sent to the Geneva Court and the U.S. Department of Justice."

Under international law any bank transfers exceeding $50,000 should be checked in accordance with the law on fighting against money laundering.
