Ukrainian lawmakers propose another bill on convicts' medical treatment abroad

Member of the parliamentary working group for drafting a bill on convicts' medical treatment abroad Inna Bohoslovska of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, has proposed drafting a new bill that would allow ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to travel abroad to undergo medical treatment.

"If we are to achieve a result, we should draft a new bill. Only a new bill will have a better chance to be passed," Bohoslovska told the other members of the working group in Kyiv on Monday.

Member of the group Iryna Lutsenko of the Batkivschyna faction said that the opposition wants the first bill to be fine-tuned on the basis of the edition proposed by independent lawmaker Anzhelika Labunska.

The daily Kommersant Ukraine earlier reported that one of the bills, proposed by the opposition, says that amendments should be made to Article 84 of the Criminal Code which deals with the chances of undergoing medical treatment abroad for convicts who developed serious illnesses while in prison.
