New bill should focus only on Tymoshenko's right to medical treatment abroad, says UDAR party leader

A bill the leaders of the Ukrainian Parliament's opposition factions are going to present on Friday should only demand that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko be allowed to go abroad for medical treatment, UDAR party leader Vitali Klitschko said.

"We ought to say in this bill that this person should have an opportunity to receive medical treatment in a foreign country at a court's decision. The key phrase should be that she has a right [to be treated abroad], which is not related to Yulia Tymoshenko's political activities and her possible pardoning. She will have to return [to Ukraine] after her medical treatment is over," Klitschko told Ukraine's Channel 5 television station on Thursday evening.

When asked whether the ex-prime minister would be able to run for president after her return to Ukraine, he said that "there are no other demands because our sole demand is that she be allowed to go abroad for medical treatment, which is also the only demand of the European Union concerning Yulia Tymoshenko."

A top priority today is to secure the passage of this bill, but "it is up to the authorities to decide" how she will be sent to a foreign clinic, Klitschko said.
