Vitali Klitschko forms election campaign team

UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko has started to form an election campaign team for participation in the 2015 presidential elections.

"Our headquarters is the headquarters of our political force. But I'm firmly sure that we'll hold consultations with our partners in opposition, as this is a team game, and it's difficult to play it alone," he told journalists at a press conference in Odesa.

However, the UDAR party leader, when asked by Interfax-Ukraine, said it was difficult to say whether he would withdraw his candidacy if ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is set free and also takes part in the elections.

"Let's take things step by step. I can only answer your question when it becomes more of an actuality," Klitschko said.

As reported, on October 24, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law making amendments to the Tax Code concerning the accounting and registration of taxpayers (No. 2054A). The UDAR faction said that this was a provocation against its leader, Vitali Klitschko, that could prevent him running in the presidential election in 2015.

The approved law contained an amendment, stating that "if a person has the right to permanent residence in a foreign country, such a person is considered to be one who does not live in Ukraine."

Klitschko said on October 24 that he plans to run to run for president of Ukraine.

"What is currently happening in parliament in regards to the law, to which pro-authority deputies are related directly, I want to say that I cannot be intimidated or stopped. In order to stop various wild guesses and attempts to get rid of me, I want to say - I am running for president," he said.
