President appoints Salo as Lviv regional governor, Shemchuk becomes presidential advisor

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed decrees dismissing Viktor Shemchuk as head of Lviv Regional State Administration and appointing ex-chief of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Ivano-Frankivsk region Oleh Salo to this post.

The decrees were posted on the official Web site of the head of state on Thursday.

Yanukovych also signed a decree appointing Shemchuk as a Ukrainian presidential advisor.

As reported, Salo headed the Interior Ministry's office in Lviv region in 2004, and during the Orange Revolution he was accused of abuse of office. The Prosecutor General's Office opened criminal cases against him for violation of election laws and abuse of office and he was put on the international wanted list.

Later the cases against Salo were closed "due to the absence of a crime in his actions."

In 2010, he headed the Interior Ministry's office in Rivne region, and then he took up the post of first deputy chief of the Interior Ministry's department of public safety. In 2012, Salo was appointed head of the Interior Ministry's main office in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
