Law enforcers investigating possible forgery of law on amendments to Tax Code aimed at Klitschko's removal from presidential race

Kyiv Prosecutor's Office has launched criminal proceedings at the request of UDAR Party MP Oksana Prodan concerning the introduction of amendments to the Tax Code affecting the UDAR Party and its leader, Vitali Klitschko, and the possible forgery of comparative tables, the press service of the prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday.

The information contained in Prodan's statement has been included in the unified register of pre-trial investigations. Criminal proceedings were launched under Part 1, Article 351 (creating artificial barriers to the work of people's deputies, providing them with deliberately misleading information) and Part 3, Article 358 (the forgery of official documents).

The case materials have been sent to the investigation department of Kyiv police for further investigation.

Law enforcers will check the information contained in Prodan's statement. Forensic examinations (including a handwriting examination) will be conducted during the investigation.

The results of the investigation will show whether the Ukrainian law was violated when putting to the vote in the Verkhovna Rada draft law No. 2054A, which caused controversy and concern among parliamentarians.

As reported, on October 24, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law introducing amendments to the Tax Code concerning the accounting and registration of taxpayers (No. 2054A). The UDAR faction believes that it is a provocation against its leader, Vitali Klitschko, and can be an obstacle for him while running for the presidential election in 2015.

The approved law supported the amendment, stating that "if a person has the right to permanent residence in a foreign country, such a person is considered to be one who does not live in Ukraine."

Klitschko said on October 24 that he plans to run in Ukraine's presidential race in 2015.

Prodan demanded that the Prosecutor General's Office investigate this issue.
