Ukrainian diplomats have already given Russian law enforcement agencies more than 30 petitions and appeals in a criminal case opened against Oleksandr Fedorovych, a Ukrainian fisherman who survived an incident with Russian border guards in the Azov Sea, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

"The case has not yet been submitted to court, and he [Fedorovych] remains under a travel ban," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don is continuing to take steps to change the measure of restraint for the Ukrainian.

"In particular, our consuls and lawyers, during the period of Fedorovych's detention, sent more than 30 petitions and appeals to Russian law enforcement agencies and held about 70 meetings with Russian government representatives," he said.

He also noted that diplomats of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow and the leadership of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office would soon hold a meeting to clarify the reaction in the issue of Fedorovych's return to Ukraine and the submission of his case for consideration by the Ukrainian side.

As reported, a Ukrainian fishing vessel and a Russian patrol boat collided in the Sea of Azov off the coast of the Russian village of Vorontsovka at about 1800 on July 17.

The fishing boat capsized and, as a result, four Ukrainians died and one survived. The Ukrainian survivor, Oleksandr Fedorovych, underwent surgery on July 19 in a hospital in Yeysk, in Russia's Krasnodar territory.

A criminal case against the surviving fisherman is being investigated in Russia. The Russian law enforcement authorities have already charged the Ukrainian national under Part 3, Article 256 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal fishing). Fedorovych is facing up to two years in prison.
