Kyiv pledges further support to Cox-Kwasniewski mission, says Foreign Ministry

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine has taken note of a decision to extend the mandate of the European Parliament's observation mission made of ex-president of the EP Pat Cox and ex-president of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski and pledged its full support to the mission.

"Ukraine has taken note of a decision of the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament to extend the mandate of the EP mission made of Presidents Aleksander Kwasniewski and Pat Cox. We see this step as recognition of the significant contribution of the mission into building trust between the EU and Ukraine," director of the ministry's information policy department Yevhen Perebyinis told this to Interfax-Ukraine when asked to comment on the extension of the mission's mandate.

In his words, Ukraine appreciates the work of the mission, in particular in carrying out independent monitoring of internal political processes in the country, as well as providing assistance in the implementation of important reforms in the framework of the country's European integration policy.

"Ukraine confirms its intention to continue to provide every assistance to the EP's mission and to act based on the interest which it shares with the EU Member States and institutions in creating an appropriate framework for the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November," the Foreign Ministry's spokesman said.
