Deputy of the European Parliament, Vice President of the European People's Party Jacek Saryusz-Wolski has stated that the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine would not be signed if ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is not released by October 21.

"The case of Yulia Tymoshenko is symbolic - the Association Agreement will not be signed if she is not released, because this is the principle of the European Union. Consequently, we are expecting the final decision when she will be able to travel for treatment and by October 21 this issue should be resolved, because on October 21 a meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states will be held, and my report will be heard there. Afterwards the ratification will be held under the condition that all of the requirements are met. If the EU conditions are not met, then there are no maneuvers, no opportunities for signing [the document]. This should take place now, if this is done later - I think Ukraine will be late," he said on the air of TV Channel Five.

Tymoshenko was arrested on August 5, 2011 during the trial on the "gas case." On October 11, 2011 Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced her to seven years in prison for abuse of authority during signing gas contracts with Russia in 2009.
