Cox, Kwasniewski arrive at Tymoshenko's hospital

The European Parliament's observers, former Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox, have arrived at Kharkiv Central Clinical Hospital No. 5, where convicted former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is undergoing medical treatment.

A cortege with a minibus, which was carrying Cox and Kwasniewski, accompanied by a traffic police car entered the territory of the hospital at 0930, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

As reported, this visit of the mission to Ukraine began on September 2. On Monday, Cox and Kwasniewski met with leaders of Batkivschyna parliamentary factions Arseniy Yatseniuk and UDAR faction Vitali Klitschko. On Tuesday, the European Parliament's observers met with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and also attended the opening of the third session of the Verkhovna Rada.

This visit of the European Parliament's observers is likely to be the last one before their report about the results of the mission's work scheduled for September 30.

The European Parliament mission to Ukraine made of Cox and Kwasniewski started monitoring court proceedings involving Tymoshenko on June 11, 2012 under an agreement between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

Their mandate was subsequently expanded to include the court proceedings involving former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko.

On April 18, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament heard the report of the Cox-Kwasniewski mission and decided to extend the mission through September 2013.
