Both the western and eastern partners of Ukraine will benefit from the formation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Maiko has said.

"When emotions and discussions subside it will become clear that the simultaneous participation of our country in the two free trade areas will be beneficial for everyone - for Ukraine and for our partners, both in the west and in the east," he said speaking before the freshmen of Kyiv Institute of International Affairs on Monday.

Maiko also that the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU did not mean that Ukraine would pay less attention to its economic cooperation with Russia and the CIS countries.

According to him, Ukraine is ready to work closely with the countries of the Customs Union in order to prevent products from third countries from getting to their markets.

"We're ready to hold talks on this matter, if it requires the cooperation of the customs services. We're also fully prepared for such interaction. However, I want to note that in our opinion this is rather an event of a technical, transitional stage," the deputy minister said.

He also said that there was no conflict of interest between the free trade area within the CIS and the free trade area with the EU.
