Ukraine's position as regards the impossibility of increasing gas prices for the population remains unchanged, so the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may abandon this requirement, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"There is an understanding on both sides that we have to replace this with other requirements," he said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels.

Yanukovych said that September and October would show whether the country would be able to reach such an agreement with the IMF.

The president also said that a Ukrainian delegation would soon leave to attend the next round of talks with the IMF on the resumption of funding.
