Installation of spyware servers in Ukraine is difficult, says expert

The installation of spyware servers in Ukraine is hard to realize from a technical point of view, the head of the committee for e-commerce of the Internet Association of Ukraine, Oleksandr Olshansky, has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"I don't believe in such a device, as too many people have to be involved in this. It's possible from a technical point of view if a [similar] system is hacked in Ukraine," he said.

He said that there is not a complete system for surveillance over Internet users in Ukraine.

"If it exists it exists in a rather fragmentary form and it is not able to trace it at the global level," he said.

Olshansky said that in theory servers that have access to someone's traffic could be located in Ukraine, but if providers ensure access to traffic.

"It's illegal according to Ukrainian law," the expert said.

Olshansky added that a scandal with Edward Snowden is too exaggerated and the problem is in another plane.

"The problem is another one – we have to use dozens of technologies belonging to one country. Everything is from the United States. The world allowed one country to be a leader in technologies," he said.

As reported, reports were made on Monday, referring to the presentation of the National Security Agency of the United States, that servers involved in the system of total global surveillance of Internet users could be located in Ukraine.
