Cox, Kwasniewski to visit Ukraine on July 29-31, says source

The European Parliament's observation mission lead by former Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox will visit Ukraine on July 29-31, an informed source has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the source, they haven't yet decided when the mission will produce a report on the results of its work. Most likely this will happen at the end of September, when the mission's term expires.

Brussels expects that the mission will offer a strategy for addressing the situation with former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the source said.

As reported, the European Parliament mission to Ukraine headed by Cox and Kwasniewski started monitoring court proceedings involving Tymoshenko on June 11, 2012 under an agreement between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

Their mandate was subsequently expanded to include the court proceedings involving former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko.

On April 18, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament heard the report of the Cox-Kwasniewski mission and decided to extend the mission through September 2013.
