Yatseniuk: If Kyiv City Council tries to meet again, opposition will prevent it

Batkivschyna faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk has said he does not rule out that Kyiv City Council will try to meet again, and promised that the opposition would prevent this.

"I think that this will start earlier than September. It's currently impossible to come out and say that the opposition has won and that Kyiv City Council will never meet... They will try to hold [a session]. In September, we will again have a political, rather than physical conflict with them," he said live on TVi Channel late on Sunday.

Yatseniuk said that the opposition would continue to insist on the holding of elections in Kyiv and in disputed election districts ahead of the EU-Ukraine summit in Vilnius this November.

"We will pursue this in parliament. We will do the same as has already been done. We will not give Kyiv City Council a chance to hold illegitimate meetings," he said.

Yatseniuk said that he was aware that "sooner or later they will hold a certain meeting in a back street or at their dacha."

"Of course we will appeal against any decisions concerning the illegitimacy of the activity of Kyiv City Council," Yatseniuk said.
