Experts think Klitschko should run for Kyiv mayor

Experts think that Ukrainian parliamentarian and leader of the UDAR Party, Vitali Klitschko, should take a risk and run for Kyiv mayor.

"Klitschko is the only candidate, who, according to opinion surveys, does not depend on status of oppositional or single candidate [from the opposition]," political analyst of the Expert Ukraine magazine Serhiy Slobodchuk said in Kyiv on Monday, during the presentation of a joint survey on the electoral situation in Kyiv with GfK Ukraine.

The expert added that Klitschko's party mates recommend their leader not to run for mayor and focus on the forthcoming presidential election. They explain their opinion by the fact that Klitschko's possible failure at the elections in Kyiv may have a negative impact on his presidential campaign.

Slobodchuk, however, said that Klitschko has chances to win Kyiv mayoral election and gain managerial experience, which he could use as a future presidential candidate.

"Klitschko's non-participation [in mayoral election] may demotivate his voters. He should take a risk, especially with such support level and development plan for Kyiv," the expert said.
