Kyiv considers it appropriate to expand its diplomatic presence in the Transdniestrian region, the special envoy for conflicts of the OSCE chairman in office, Andriy Deschytsia, has said.

"I want to confirm that indeed Ukraine is interested in expanding consular presence in the Republic of Moldova. This issue has been on the agenda of the Ukrainian-Moldovan bilateral relations for a long time and this is due to a large number of Ukrainian citizens living in this country, including those in the Transdniestrian region," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 90,000 Ukrainians live in Transdniestria, therefore it is reasonable to open a consulate of Ukraine in Tiraspol.

"But I want to stress that these issues are the subject to discussion with Chisinau within consultations between the profile authorities of Ukraine and Moldova," said the diplomat.
