German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has urged the Ukrainian opposition to coordinate its work in parliament and to nominate a single candidate for the 2015 presidential elections, Leader of the UDAR Faction Vitali Klitschko has said.

"We talked about the actions of the opposition, and Mr. Westerwelle made a very important request to unite efforts. He urged to work together not only in parliament, but to put forward a single candidate in the 2015 presidential election," Klitschko told the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty about the meeting with the German foreign minister in Kyiv.

According to him, Westerwelle offered to start talking about a single candidate right now, but the opposition still believes it is premature to discuss this issue. "He has suggested it. But as of today, I am sure, and Arseniy Yatseniuk (the leader of the Batkivschyna faction, who also participated in the meeting with the German minister) also said that it was too early to talk about it."

"I believe that we should unite our efforts and nominate a candidate from the opposition soon, the candidate who has the best chance to defeat a candidate from the authorities, Mr. Yanukovych," Klitschko said.

He also said that he asked Westerwelle to assist Ukraine's European aspirations.
