Premier, speaker commemorate war victims at Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Kyiv
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak laid a wreath to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Monument to the Heroes on Slavy Square in Kyiv on the Day of Mourning and War Victims Commemoration in Ukraine.
Veterans, government officials, MPs and Kyiv officials also took part in the ceremony, according to the Web site of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych, for his part, in his address to fellow countrymen on occasion of the Day of Mourning and War Victims Commemoration said: "On this sad day we remember all those innocent who perished, all those who gave their lives for their homeland during the Great Patriotic War. The war brought huge losses and took lives of millions of our countrymen."
"We still do not know the names of all the victims and the places where they found their final rest," the president's press service quoted his address.
Yanukovych said that meeting the needs of everyday life of war veterans is one of the priorities of the state and society.
June 22 marks Day of Mourning and War Victims Commemoration in Ukraine.
