Yatseniuk proposes Yanukovych creating ad hoc commission for settling disputes in parliament

Leader of the Batkivschyna faction Arseniy Yatseniuk has offered Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to create a special commission on settling controversial matters in parliament.

On the air of Channel 5 on Wednesday, Yatseniuk said that the commission should help the opposition and the government to find a solution on issues such as the conduct of parliamentary elections in troubled districts, the election of the mayor of Kyiv and the city council, as well as drafting a new law on the Central Election Commission.

"I turned to Yanukovych with a proposal to set up a temporary ad hoc commission with the participation of all five factions, which would firstly develop the bill on the elections in five constituencies, not in seven, secondly pass a resolution about holding the elections in Kyiv, and thirdly develop a new law on the CEC, because its tenure expires next year… We need such CEC, which will not be subordinate to the president or the Party of Regions, and will be an independent agency," Yatseniuk said.
