Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he thinks that Ukraine and Belarus are not making use of their cooperation potential in full.

"We think that the huge potential our countries have is not used in full," the head of state said during the Ukrainian-Belarusian talks in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Yanukovych added that business cooperation between Ukraine and Belarus, which is based on current agreements, is necessary for the further intensification of relations between the countries. In this context, he said that the effective work of subcommittees is very important, and they should propose specific ways to further develop cooperation between Ukraine and Belarus.

"We are eager to make use of our opportunities in various spheres in full," Yanukovych said.

He added that a free trade agreement should be implemented in the CIS.

Yanukovych also said that today's tête-à-tête meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko had been fruitful.

"We had a very detailed and effective dialogue on specific mutually beneficial projects," the president said.

According to him, in particular, the sides discussed relations between Ukraine and Belarus, the current political situations in both countries, and their relations within the Customs Union. The presidents also raised the issues of cooperation in the spheres of transport, oil transportation, agriculture, agricultural engineering, as well as military and technical cooperation.

The sides also paid attention to the issue of cross-border cooperation between the countries' regions.

Yanukovych also said that the development and strengthening of relations between the countries' regions "will create opportunities for the implementation of various projects in the sphere of housing and utilities."
