Some 42% of Ukrainians over 16 use broadband Internet at home as of late Q1, 2013, says GfK

Some 42% of Ukrainians over 16 year old used broadband Internet at home as of late Q1, 2013, which is 9 percentage notches up year-over-year, reads a study of GfK Ukraine published on June 7, 2013.

The largest growth was seen in the age group from 40 to 49, and saturation level in it reached 48%. In addition, the large number of connections to Internet was registered in towns with the population of 51,000-100,000 people.

Average expenses on Internet at home grew from UAH 79 per month in the first quarter of 2012 to UAH 82 per month in the first quarter of 2013. Kyiv residents have the largest expenses on Internet – UAH 91 a month on average.

The most popular reason for using Internet access service is social networks, as well as e-mail, music and film downloading, and searching for information on products and services. In the first quarter of 2013 the popularity of Internet telephony (Skype, etc) services and quick message systems grew.

The regular survey is conducted using an interview method. A total of 1,000 respondents are polled every month.
