Azarov: Memorandum with EEC does not contradict Ukraine's international obligations

A memorandum on deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) does not contradict other international obligations of Ukraine, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"The memorandum is a framework document, and it doesn't absolutely contradict the international obligations assumed by Ukraine. It expands our opportunities for cooperation," he said, while opening a government meeting on Wednesday.

In addition, he said that the memorandum enables Ukraine soon to obtain observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union, which will start operating from January 1, 2015.

Azarov recalled that the government had set up a working group to deepen cooperation with the Customs Union, which is analyzing the documents adopted as part of the Customs Union and studying which of them Ukraine can join.

He said that the group had already studied 95 of 118 documents, which are in effect in the Customs Union.
