Avakov: Tymoshenko's position to lead to qualitatively new unification of opposition

Batkivschyna faction MP Arsen Avakov has said that a statement made by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, in which she spoke out against a single opposition candidate in the presidential election, is a political move that promptscertain actions.

"Yulia has made a move that nobody expected from her. She spoke out against the strategy of a single candidate. This is a political move, which prompts opponents and allies to certain actions that will in fact lead to the right result," he said on Thursday during an expert forum "Ukraine 2013. Agenda," which was organized by the Gorshenin Institute.

He said that Tymoshenko had returned to active political work and proposed another action plan in her article.

He also added that the ex-premier was pursuing national interests and that her plan "will lead to a completely new qualitative level of the unification of the opposition, rather than split it."

As reported, in her article written for the Levy Bereg online newspaper (Lb.ua) and published on the Web site of the Batkivschyna Party, Tymoshenko opposed the nomination of a single opposition candidate for the 2015 presidential elections in Ukraine if they are held in two rounds.

"I want to state clearly that I am opposed to the nomination of a single opposition candidate for president if the election is held in two rounds. I believe that the nomination of a single opposition candidate in the presidential election is not only unnecessary, but also extremely harmful for the victory," reads the article.
