Yanukovych: Ukrainian-Russian relations of interest to both sides

Ukrainian-Russian relations are of particular interest both in Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"You and I have much to discuss. All issues related to our bilateral relations cause deep interest in Ukraine and Russia. Our traditional agenda will be passed, and we will slowly move forward," he said at a meeting with Putin in Sochi (Russia) on Sunday.

According to the presidential press service, Yanukovych said he was interested in Russia's preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

"I was very interested when we were flying over Sochi and saw construction work everywhere. I understand that time is very limited. Of course, this is a very exciting project," he said.

Putin thanked Yanukovych for the opportunity to discuss bilateral relations during the meeting.

"Viktor Fedorovych, I am happy to see you here and have a chance to discuss bilateral relations, trade and economic ties, as well as our cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States in an informal setting," he said.

Putin said that relations between the two countries cover a broad range.

"Traditionally, our relations have been broad, covering political contacts, economic ties and humanitarian interaction. We have much to discuss, as usual. Thank you for accepting the invitation and for finding time to come here on your day-off. I am very glad indeed to see you," Putin said.
