German ambassador: Ukraine up to meeting EU's conditions

The European Union would like to have Ukraine as a partner that is committed to European values, Germany's Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil said in an interview with ZN.UA.

When asked why the EU puts forward conditions for the signing of the Association Agreement by Ukraine, Weil said: "Because we are talking not about a simple treaty on free trade area. This document also deals with political association. We would like to have Ukraine as a partner that is committed to European values."

"Our recommendations, the implementation of which should be a prerequisite for the signing of the Association Agreement, are quite feasible for any European country. In additional, you will still have a lot to do after the implementation of these recommendations and the signing - the implementation of hundreds of pages of the agreement. Does the EU demands that Ukraine do something impossible, which is beyond its strength? I believe that our expectations are only natural when it comes to signing the agreement, which in terms of its scope and depth is unparalleled in the history of the European Union's relations with third countries," the diplomat said.

According to the diplomat, Ukraine confirmed its European choice through a relevant law. Weil also believes that the state, which wants to be associated with the European Union, should be able to meet these conditions.
