Opposition only interested in destabilizing situation, says Ukrainian premier

The Ukrainian opposition is only interested in destabilizing the situation in the country, and Ukraine does not need such aspirants for power, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

In opening a government meeting on Wednesday, Azarov said he was disappointed with how parliamentary hearings dealing with the government's performance passed on Friday, April 19.

"I had hoped that the discussion would deal with a detailed analysis of the government's program for intensifying the Ukrainian economy, but it turned out that the opposition doesn't care about actual work. They are incapable of professional and pragmatic analysis and cooperation," he said.

"They openly demonstrated to society that they are only interested in destabilizing the situation and do not want to answer either for their past decisions or future actions. Ukraine doesn't need such aspirants for power," he said.

Azarov said he is determined to strictly control the government's cooperation with the parliamentarians, as he is convinced that the country can develop only provided that the president, the government, and the parliament work in coordination with each other.
