Foreign Ministry: Government approves plan of priority measures on Ukraine's EU integration for 2013

The Ukrainian government has approved a plan of priority measures for European integration in 2013, First Deputy Foreign Minister Ruslan Demchenko has said.

"The approved document is a comprehensive government decision, which is aimed at ensuring continuous work on the implementation of Ukraine's EU integration tasks, taking into account domestic social and economic reforms that are being conducted in the state," he said after a government meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that the plan envisages, among other things, concrete actions by the Ukrainian side to prepare for the implementation of the future EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the strengthening of cooperation in the field of justice, freedom and security, including in the context of reforming the system of the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, electoral system and the fight against corruption, as well as trade and sectoral cooperation with the EU and the improvement of the business and investment climate in Ukraine.

Demchenko also added that the planned events would be complemented by steps to reform the judicial system, which are being taken as part of the Constitutional Assembly and respective committees and working groups.

He also noted that the government's decision was important in the context of preparations for the EU-Ukraine summit in Brussels on February 25 and in the context of the expected signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement this autumn.
