Foreign Ministry: Kyiv expects Israel, Palestine to sign peace treaty

Ukraine hopes that soon all of the conditions for the signing a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine will be created.

"Ukraine is guided by the necessity to provide a step-by-step approach to a major target: when two independent states, Israel and Palestine, live in peace and safety, that will favor the establishment of stability and economic development in the whole of the Middle East," Spokesman of Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Ministry Oleksandr Dykusarov said in the interview to Interfax-Ukraine being asked to comment the adoption by General Assembly of the United Nations a Resolution to grant Palestine a status of observer.

Dykusarov noted that due to the adoption of the resolution, Kyiv noted that there is a Palestinian Embassy in Ukraine, and also a representative office of Ukraine to the Palestinian National Authority.

The Ukraine's foreign spokesman stressed that in a situation, in which, after a worsening of relations, Israel and Hamas achieved a truce, for Ukraine the main issue is "the creation of the conditions to achieve peaceful and across-the-board agreement between the peoples of Israel and Palestine on the results of their bilateral talks."

"In turn, Ukraine confirms its readiness to keep providing good service in the Middle East peace process."

As reported, on November 30, Palestine upgraded its status in the United Nations from a permanent observer to a state-observer that is not a UN member. One hundred and thirty-eight countries voted for this, nine against, and 41 countries abstained from voting.
