Regions Party MP Oleksandr Savchuk died on Sunday, November 11, at the age of 58, the Donetsk regional branch of the Regions Party has reported.

"The Donetsk regional branch of the Regions Party is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Savchuk. and expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Fond memories of him will always live in the hearts of his friends and colleagues," reads the statement.

Savchuk was born on August 6, 1954, in the village of Bilopillia, Sumy region. He was the president of PJSC Azovmash, the president of the Azovmash basketball club (Mariupol), and the founder of the Azovmash charity fund.

In 2006, Savchuk was elected to parliament on the list of the Regions Party. In 2007, he was re-elected to parliament, where he was a member of the committee on transport and communications.
