Yanukovych calls on philanthropists to help open new perinatal centers

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that modern perinatal centers should be opened in all regions in Ukraine.

"Our task is to create modern medical institutions like these in all regions in Ukraine. These centers are a cry from the depths of the soul of doctors, specialists, and expectant mothers," he said in Simferopol on Tuesday during his visit to the perinatal center, which is being commissioned pursuant to a presidential order of November 19, 2010 as part of a national project "A New Life - A New Quality of Maternal and Child Health."

Yanukovych noted that the six perinatal centers so far opened in Ukraine had shown their effectiveness.

"We saw in these centers that infant and maternal mortality has significantly decreased over a short period of time," he said.

He also said that the perinatal center in Simferopol would work in the so-called University Hospital of the State Medical University, which will significantly improve the effectiveness of its work, because such a center can provide services that cannot be rendered in other city, district and rural hospitals.

Yanukovych said that the opening of perinatal centers was in many cases supported by philanthropists who, in particular, provide funds for the purchase of equipment. In this regard, he asked to local authorities and the Crimean Council of Ministers to more effectively develop cooperation with business representatives. He said that the results of this work would have great success.

"Public-private partnership is currently developing successfully in Ukraine," he said.
