The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine (UNHCR) has confirmed that Russian citizen Leonid Razvozzhayev wanted to get refugee status in Ukraine, but disappeared on the day he was getting legal advice.

"He applied to the UNHCR to request legal assistance to get refugee status in Ukraine and was sent to a non-governmental organization that provides free counseling to individuals who intend to or have already applied for this status," an adviser for public information at the UNHCR Regional Office in Ukraine, Oleksandra Makovska, said on Monday.

According to her, Razvozzhayev came to the office of the organization on October 19 in order to be registered at the UNHCR and get legal advice.

"A break was announced in the process of counseling, he left the room and did not return, though they were supposed to continue the communication. He disappeared leaving his belongings, it was impossible to establish contact with him. Lawyers were concerned and notified the law enforcement authorities that a person had disappeared," she said.

At the same time, Makovska did not comment on the report that Razvozzhayev could have been detained and brought to Moscow by the Russian security services.

As reported, Russian opposition activist Sergei Udaltsov said at a rally in Moscow on Saturday that Razvozzhayev, whom Russian authorities declared wanted on suspicion of preparing mass disturbances across the country, had been detained by unidentified people in Kyiv and brought to Moscow.

The press center of the Ukrainian Security Service said that neither the Russian Federation nor Interpol had made any official report about his detention.
