Germany, via KfW, to provide Ukrenergo with EUR 24.5 mln in loan, grant funds to strengthen energy system stability

The German government, through the German state development bank KfW, has allocated NPC Ukrenergo an EUR 24 million loan and an EUR 500,000 grant to strengthen the sustainability of the Ukrainian energy system, head of the company's board Volodymyr Kudrytsky said.

"Ukrenergo is raising an additional EUR 24.5 million to strengthen the Ukrainian energy system. Today we discussed with new head of the KfW Office in Ukraine Lorenz Gessner and German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger that these funds will be used to strengthen our technical ties with the power grid of continental Europe, restore high-voltage facilities in the western region of the country and build their protection," he wrote on his Facebook on Monday.

As Kudrytsky noted, the signing of all necessary agreements is expected in the coming weeks.

"Our partners are systematically investing in the development of our common energy security. It has three important components: restoration of energy facilities, their protection, and increasing trade in electricity with the EU," the head of the system operator said.

Previously, Ukrenergo attracted a total of more than EUR 220 million in KfW loan and grant funds for the restoration and reconstruction of substations. In addition, German transmission system operators Amprion, TenneT, TrasnetBW and 50 Hertz provided more than a hundred pieces of equipment needed to repair the system operator's main power grids and substations.
