Lawmakers have proposed that sale of meat from slaughtering houses that do not have the exploitation license is restricted from January 1, 2020.

The requirement is outlined in bill No. 7489 amending the Administrative Code of Ukraine, the law on safety and quality of food and the law on public supervision over the observation of legislation about food. The bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on January 16, 2018.

Lawmakers from different parliamentary factions propose that slaughtering of livestock, poultry, rabbits and nutrias bred in private households is banned in slaughtering houses that do not have licenses from January 1, 2020. The requirement does not concern slaughtering of up to 10 hens, rabbits and nutrias a day.

The authors of the bill believe that this would allow regulating household slaughtering of livestock aiming at preventing the spread of hazardous diseases, in particular, African Swine Fever (ASF).

The document also provides for toughening the conditions for traceability of food products of animal origin: for violation of the requirements it is proposed to impose a fine in the amount of 30 to 50 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (UAH 17).
