Lagarde at meeting with Poroshenko notes need to appoint independent, permanent NBU head

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, after a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Davos, noted the need to appoint an independent and permanent head of the National Bank of Ukraine.

"I particularly appreciative the imminent appointment of an independent and permanent governor of the Central Bank of Ukraine, which is very much needed," the presidential press service quoted Lagarde as saying on Wednesday.

She expressed satisfaction with productive negotiations with President Poroshenko and members of his team.

"Hopefully, the other measures, the implementation of which we have discussed and the planning of which we have discussed and will continue to work on together, will lead us to the completion of the review that is currently pending," Lagarde said.
