Germany allocates EUR 1.5 mln in support of ICRC humanitarian activities in Ukraine

The German Federal Government will provide financial support to the humanitarian activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ukraine worth EUR 1.5 million, the German Embassy in Ukraine has reported.

Thus, the total financing by Germany of ICRC projects and events in Ukraine in 2016-2018 will increase to EUR 16 million.

The German embassy reminded that Germany financially supports numerous humanitarian events within the framework of the ICRC project "Assistance, Protection, Prevention and Cooperation in Ukraine in 2016-2017", which are carried out mainly in the east of Ukraine. They cover medical care, trauma care, support for health facilities, preventive measures, provision of food and hygiene, water supply, training of medical personnel, search for missing persons and restoration of family ties, custody for prisoners, as well as information on mines and unexploded ordnance, etc.

"These measures are an important contribution to overcoming the consequences of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine. They improve the situation of internally displaced persons, families in certain communities that shelter them, as well as the lines of demarcation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that suffered from the conflict on both sides," the embassy said.
