EBRD mulling funding for development of concept to reform medicine registration in Ukraine

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering the possibility of financing the development of a concept for reforming the system for medicines registration in Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on its website.

"The Ministry of Health, together with the EBRD and international experts, is working on a step-by-step plan for changes in registration of drugs. The goal is to regulate the existing procedure, which is imperfect in comparison with the world practices," the report said.

The agency noted the need to transform the market of medicines in Ukraine: from scientific developments, manufacturing and registration of drugs to the issues of drug consumption.

"Taking into account the best practices of the EU countries, in particular Poland, their achievements and, most importantly, mistakes, we have a unique chance to make the Ukrainian model not only effective and modern, but also economically more attractive. This is another policy of the ministry, on which we have been working together for the second year in a row," Deputy Minister of Health Roman Ilyk said.
