Effectiveness of moratorium on imports of round timber should be analyzed - Poroshenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the effectiveness of the moratorium on imports of round timber should be analyzed.
The press service of the head of state reported that he was speaking at a meeting on the improvement of the public policy in the field of forestry and hunting economy during his working visit to Ivano-Frankivsk region last week.
The press service said that no skyrocketing growth in loading of Ukrainian timber processing enterprises after imposing the moratorium was seen.
"This means that there is the market in the shadows, which must be closed today," he said.
Poroshenko asked representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the police, foresters and local self-government agencies with a proposal to take clear measures, set clear terms for prosecuting violators and reminded them of their personal responsibility.
"People must feel that we not only stopped illegal logging, but we are also actively restoring [forests]," he said.
