FTA with Israel to have some exceptions for agricultural goods

The free trade agreement (FTA) between Ukraine and Israel could have some exceptions for some groups of agricultural products, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Ukraine's Trade Representative Natalia Mykolska has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"Israel did not propose the exclusion of agrarian products from the free trade agreement. For Ukraine, which exports 40% of agricultural products, any agreements should and will take into account the interests of producers and exporters of this important sector of the economy of our country. Our agreement will have some exceptions for agricultural goods from both sides," she said.

According to Mykolska, the options for introducing tariff quotas on certain agricultural products groups, as stipulated in the FTA agreements with Canada and the EU, as well as the possibility of establishing transitional periods with a possibility of gradually reducing duties on these groups of goods are discussed during negotiations.

"At all negotiations the Ukrainian delegation pays special attention to the access of domestic agrarian products and products with high added value to the markets of other countries," she said.

As reported, earlier Minister for Environmental Protection, for Jerusalem Affairs and Israeli Heritage Zeev Elkin said that Israel is ready not to include agricultural products in the FTA with Ukraine.

He said that the issue of supplies of agricultural products could be regulated in agreements signed by economy ministries of the two countries and supplying companies.
