Naftogaz increases capital investment in GTS 2.5 times, guarantees stable transit

There are no grounds to speak about the risks for gas transit using the Ukrainian gas transport system (GTS). Capital investment in the system is growing, Naftogaz Ukrainy Commercial Director Yuriy Vitrenko has said.

"We guarantee stable transit," he said on Channel 5 TV late on Monday, commenting on the statement of Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk that there are alleged risks of the operation efficiency of the GTS.

Vitrenko said that Naftogaz planned to increase capital investment in the gas transport system in 2017 by 2.5 times, and the target was met by 103% for the January-June 2017 period.

He said that the statement of the minister could be linked to absent-mindedness or his desire to have more funds invested in the GTS.

Vitrenko said that Naftogaz must meet other targets, including for payments to the national budget.

"We should balance 'wishes,'" he said.

Nasalyk said on UA: Pershy TV channel on Sunday that he believes that the policy of Naftogaz regarding the transport system is absurd. The minister said that "we could finish with Ukrtransgaz that would not be ready to pump gas with this position of Naftogaz Ukrainy."
