Corruption and legal insecurity restrain French investments in Ukraine - ambassador

A number of French companies would like to enter the Ukrainian market as investors and develop new projects, but they are constrained by the rather problematic business climate in the country, French Ambassador to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

The president of the republic touched upon this issue at a meeting with President [of Ukraine Petro] Poroshenko in Paris: despite interest in the Ukrainian market from all new French companies, they are not de facto willing to start work here because of legal insecurity and corruption, the ambassador said.

At the same time, she noted that, fortunately, the Ukrainian government has people and structures that try to solve problems and sometimes eliminate obstacles that arise, despite the opposition.

I mean the UkraineInvest office of attracting and supporting investment, as well as the office of the National Investment Council under the president of Ukraine, the official said.

She added French companies are already working and developing in the Ukrainian market, and France is the largest foreign employer in Ukraine. Among the industries interesting for French investors she named renewable energy projects.
